Hi
I have had psoriasis for a long time now, and have been finding ways to control it, a lot of people have said that food can be the trigger, but I just don't know, currently I am using creams every hour to calm things down, and I am also on bed rest doctors say that works to, but I am getting to the point where psoriasis is taking over my life, I just want a way to keep things under control, if food is a cause of psoriasis flare, please could you tell me, which types of food to stay away from, and which foods I can eat, I am willing to do anything to changing diet, my diet is quite bad at the moment, and would also like to improve my diet. Thank you.
Our replyHi, and thanks for your message. I'm so sorry for the difficulty you are having with psoriasis. Yes, you may be able to help your psoriasis by helping your body to be nourished with healthier foods. If your psoriasis is very severe, I recommend you seek out a good natural healthcare practitioner or holistic MD who can advise you. Most conventional medical doctors are not trained in this kind of nutritional approach, however Naturopathic doctors and some Acupuncturists may be able to help.
It is important to understand that there is no one single psoriasis diet that will work for everyone, so you will need to develop an ongoing relationship with your body to see what kinds of food will be most nourishing and supportive.
We have a section on
Diet for Psoriasis that offers some helpful suggestions for foods to eat more of , and foods to eat less of or to avoid completely. I hope this can be helpful to you. We also have an entire section of our site devoted to
psoriasis causes and treatments which also includes some pictures, and some
natural remedies for psoriasis.
I am not a healthcare practitioner but in my own experience with chronic skin conditions, I have found that regular exercise is also very helpful in helping the skin to eliminate toxins and to be maximally healthy. Once your psoriasis is more under control, I recommend you talk with your doctor or healthcare practitioner about a regular program of gentle exercise to help your overall health as well as you skin. I hope you are able to feel better soon!
